LEONARD  SALMON REEL 4” This is a salmon reel made by Julius vom Hofe for the Leonard Mills company.  Shown in the Leonard 1930 catalog as the model 48M.  Markings on the reel that remain visible are the patent number 1673382 and the drag settings Light and Heavy. The raised pillar frame design is based on the old Philbrook and Payne patent.  Sideplates are hard rubber, frame is aluminum, handle is aluminum, axle brass, spool sides aluminum, and pillars nickel silver.  Spool diameter is 3 5/8”, frame outside the raised pillars is 4 ¼”, nominally 4” per the catalog.  Spool width is 1 3/16”.  Weight is 17 ounces. Condition of this reel is excellent, with side plates free of cracks or scratches, and frame free of cracks or dings.  The nickel silver foot is full length (3”), with a slight flare at one end, as shown. Spindle turns freely, grasp turns freely.  The drag mechanism on this model has a detent to lock in the settings, all of which work smoothly.  Maximum drag is quite robust.  This is a handsome reel, well-made from excellent materials by one of America’s best reel makers.

All stated dimensions of sheet glass are approximate. Because of the unique process and conditions of manufacturing art glass, the sheets are not perfectly square, nor are the sizes exact. Unless noted otherwise all sheet glass is approximately 1/8″ thick.

*Note On Image Accuracy: While glass is notoriously difficult to capture well in a photograph, great care is given to present glass as true-to-life as possible. Computer monitors vary widely and may not reliably portray the glass or its color.
